New Story!

This last March, and the beginning of this April, I have been working on a novel. What I did was basically NaNoWriMo, but you know, in a different month. Anyway, it's been really fun to work on. It's called Core, and it's about people with superpowers in a world where superpowers are feared. The summary will be posted below.
(It is also available on fictionpress under the name Hunters of the New Age. Check it out!)

The world has been split in two on an ongoing debate; accept those with powers into society or alienate them? In a world where superpowers are real, four teens fight for their cause. But is it worth it to be accepted if no one truly trusts you?

Wind

Alanis closed her eyes and leaned back against the grassy hill, feeling a slight breeze rolling around her, lazily flicking the leaves of the trees that surround her. She gently wiggled the fingers of her left hand, and the breeze wrapped itself around them, twisting and curling itself, obeying her commands. A smile ghosted across Alanis's face. Her fingers fell still, releasing the wind from its bond, and it burst from her. It rushed across her momentarily, thrashing like a small twister, before settling and becoming docile once more. A sigh escaped her lips.

Burned

Willa gasped as Danny submerged her hands into the bucket filled with cold water, chunks of ice floating about the surface. She could not hold back a tear as the pain radiated from her hands and up her arms to the rest of her body. She looked away from her burned hands, and the blisters that had formed on the sensitive skin. They were a bright, ugly crimson color, raw and tender.
Danny's voice was low, and he was telling - or perhaps asking - her something, but Willa wasn't paying much attention. All the while, a familiar thought is being repeated within her mind, 'If you play with fire, you're bound to get burned'.
The fire that flowed through her veins had never disobeyed her before, but she had coddled it like a small child with a pet, never truly controlling the raw power within herself. And, after all, if an animal isn't controlled, sooner or later someone will get bit.

I Dream of Stars and Top Hats

I dream of stars and top hats
I can name them one by one,
Polaris, Gliese, Antares
And Alcor and Mizar, the twins
They shine bright in the nights sky,
Together for all eternity
Gleaming like diamonds
Covered in ice blue fire

Childhood
